Let’s face it, we all love free stuff! And we all love to be spoilt on our birthday! So here’s six places that offer free entry or a free meal on your birthday.

1. Free ride on the Table Mountain Cablecar

What could be better than watching the sun rise or set from the top of one of the Seven Wonders of Nature, right here on our doorstep? The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway offers South Africans a free return trip on your birthday. Collect your ticket from the Visitor Information Centre, upon presenting your SA ID, before 16h30 on your birthday, or up to seven days thereafter. Note: If your birthday falls during the annual maintenance period, you need to get your ticket one week before or after that period.

2. Free entry to the Two Oceans Aquarium

You get free entry the Two Oceans Aquarium on your birthday. As well as the six days after your birthday if you don’t have time to take it all in on your birthday day.  Simply take your South African ID along to the aquarium ticket office and enjoy a free day of underwater exploration, including a kelp forest, a predator tank,  jellyfish gallery (this is my personal favourite), touch pools, penguins and more.

3. Free ride on the Cape Wheel

Fill in the application form online and on your birthday you will receive a free birthday voucher via email. The voucher is valid for 30 days. Bring the voucher and your ID to the ticket booth to enjoy your free ride with magnificent views over the city, including Table Mountain, Robben Island, the Cape Town city skyline, Paarl Mountains, and the Cape Town Stadium. Note: If you do not have the printed voucher, the free ride may only be redeemed on the day of birthday, using your ID as proof.

4. Free ticket to Galileo Outdoor Movie

If your birthday falls within The Galileo Open Air Cinema’s schedule and there’s a movie showing on your special day, then you get a free ticket to the movie, plus a blanket and backrest. Simply arrive at the venue on the day with you ID and voila! However, if you have others joining you, make sure they pre-book their tickets.  Note: The birthday special is not valid for Valentine’s Day, Easter, Halloween, or Christmas special screenings.

5. Free bottle of tequila and pizza at SurfaRosa

Not only does this edgy dive bar with subliminal punk and surf influences have the best Happy Hour in town (drinks are fabulously cheap between 17h00 to 19h00) they also offer a great birthday treat.  Book your birthday party (10 people or more) and they will give you a booth (or three) and throw in a free bottle of Olmeca Black tequila and one or two free pizzas to ensure you have a festive time!  Note: SurfaRosa is closed on Sundays and Mondays.

6. Free meal voucher at JC Brasserie & Pub
