Pubs and bars

I love pubs and bars. I know what you’re thinking, but I tend to prefer certain watering holes for more reasons than just having a pint or two.  I either love the history, enjoy meeting the interesting patrons or simply because it’s cheap, cheerful or quirky. Here are some of my favourite places to go for a cold one.

Stella Sessions at Stella Cafe & Bar, Cullinan Hotel
Bubbly and Fridays make for an excellent pairing and the swish Stella Café & Bar at the Cullinan Hotel on Cape Town's foreshore is the perfect spot to wind down on a Friday evening with a glass of MCC in hand by the equally sparkling hotel swimming pool. Read more

This could be Green Point’s best-kept secret. Reasonably-priced drinks and food, braai nights, pool parties and a swimming pool that everyone is welcome to use! Read more

The Kimberley Hotel, Cape Town
Originally the departure point for horse-drawn carriages leaving Cape Town for Kimberley, this hotel just oozes history and the bar always has an interesting array of patrons. The food is also ridiculously cheap! Read more
