The Elgin Blossom Weekend is where you want to be on Saturday the 12th and Sunday the 13th of October this year! Spring has sprung, the bees are out, orchards are in blossom as the new season is celebrated. There will be a hive of activity over the weekend, which falls right in the middle of apple blossom time. The idea is for visitors to explore the area on their own and stop in at some of The Elgin Blossom Weekend partners for spring blossom themed activities, meals, tastings and more.

Visitors are invited to a weekend of wonderful adventures. Come and explore the outdoors with orchard and vineyard walks, organic veggie garden tours, fynbos walking trails, outdoor yoga sessions, river barge cruises and a one of a kind B-Active Amazing Race running throughout the weekend!

Elgin Grabouw Tourism will be partnering with The Bee Effect, an organisation that promotes diverse plants for bee nourishment. You can help raise awareness and funds for the local honey bees by purchasing Throw ‘n Grow Bee Food Bombs at all Elgin Blossom Weekend participating outlets. Each bomb contains up to 40 seeds which are encased in nutrient-rich clay, protecting them from predators like birds and insects.

Selected Elgin Blossom Weekend participants will be serving spring blossom lunches and picnics and offering honey tastings, craft beer brewing demonstrations and fermentation workshops.  All of the Valley’s restaurants and wine farms will be open for tastings. The Elgin Railway Market will be open for “beesnees” as usual with a see-through bee hive on display as well as an opportunity to take part in honey tastings.

Wine lovers and Chardonnay aficionados are able to take part in the highly acclaimed fourth annual Elgin Chardonnay Colloquium on Saturday, 12 October, where a panel of wine experts will guide guests through Elgin’s elegant Chardonnays. Tickets for this event are available online at Quicket.

There is an opportunity for art enthusiasts to capture the beauty of the prettiest season at a two day oil-painting art workshop, as well as the launch of a new art exhibition on Sunday, 13 October.

For the kids there is no shortage of fun-filled activities, from family fun runs to tractor rides, mini-boeresport, kite flying, ketty shooting and jumping castles!

The Elgin Blossom Weekend is perfect for day trippers as well as for those who want to make a weekend of it and stay for longer at one of the many sought-after establishments. From farm stays to guest houses, bike hotels to luxury manor houses – the Elgin Valley is waiting to welcome you!
